Palestine@MIT stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters across the country, fighting against state-sanctioned violence and systematic oppression. George Floyd’s murder last week was a heinous crime, but sadly it was only one in a long history of police terror against the black community in this country. For too long, systems of brutality and oppression have gotten away with murder and injustice. The people have had enough.

Over the course of the past week, the masses have come out to protest a racist system that has perpetuated injustice and brutality against communities of color. They have come out to protest a system that endorses rampant police militarization and terror against minority communities. They have come out to protest a system that continues to methodically minimize and devalue the lives of black people. They have come out to demand justice in a system that would have swept this under the rug were there no bystanders filming.

Among the peaceful protests that have taken place across this country, we have witnessed the terrorizing response of the police institution. Protesters are met with tear gas and rubber bullets, they are beaten and abused, they are arrested and slandered. The people’s movement threatens the power structures which were built on centuries of white supremacy, and the response of the system shows the strength of the movement. Liberation movements will always be met with repression by the oppressor, which is why we must stand together.

Palestine@MIT stands in firm support with our black brothers and sisters in the fight against police brutality, white supremacy, and systematic oppression.
